Winchester is an unicorporated community in Douglas County, in the Roseburg metro area.

The community is believed to named after Samuel Winchester, a member of an expedition that explored the Umpqua Valley in 1850. The first meeting of the Douglas County Commission was held in Winchester, Oregon in 1853, with the three elected commissioners and sheriff in attendance. Winchester remained the county seat until 1854, when voters chose Roseburg as the county seat over rival town Winchester, which through the development of both cities, has in the present day become regarded as a part of Roseburg.

Housing growth here has been tremendous as Roseburg grows. One such development is Winchester Creek, a 22-acre, 40-lot subdivision located in Winchester, Oregon just north of Roseburg that was developed in two phases. The larger Winchester Ridge is a 557-acre master planned community that when finished, will feature 111 lots built in the hills east of Roseburg, OR outside the current urban growth boundary.
